Activities

In the Amirthi Forest village of Jawadhu Hills, Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu, which is 27 Kms from Vellore Town. we have 83 cents of land with few buildings of around 6000 sq.feet which can be used to run a School ,different training Courses, retreats etc.

NATPU Tribal Middle School

The organization has been running NATPU Nursery and Primary School From 1991. The School is being upgraded to Middle School (upto 8th standard) with the approvel of the authorities of Tamilnadu Education Department.

Initially in the year 2003 we were functioning our project here as a Primary School, later from the year 2010 onwards we are running it as a residential school and shifted all our projects from our other rental project areas to our own campus. We provided free accommodation to the high school and the higher secondary school children who were doing their schooling at the nearest government higher secondary school from our campus which is 7 Kms far from Amirthi.Earlier,We were functioning this project at Thathankuppam village in a rented building.

Tuition Centre

In the evenings, special tution classes are conducted to supplement as remedial classes for children who need additional coaching. There is a big demand for tution centers for extra coaching in various places of this Kanamalai panchayat.

Vocational Training

Typewriting, Talioring and Computer Classes are Conducted in the Centre. The tribal women are very much interested in learning tailoring and are using the bamboo which is available in their local areas for making different household things.

Medical Camps

The tribal people have many medical problems but little or no access to health centres or hospitals. Scabies and boils are often found in children, while sexually transmitted diseases are very common in both men and women. With no treatment available, simple problems like dehydration and fever can lead to death. So NATPU has started free Medical Camps, where doctors and nurses are brought from nearby places. These camps are at present dependant on local contributions.

Hospital

The tribal community of Jawadhu hills , who are our beneficiaries are suffering alot without any medical help in times of medical emergency and they are requesting us to start a 10-20 bedded hospital as there is no hospital within the 30 km radius.

Hostel Facilities for Boys and Girls

NATPU was Running Tribal Students Hostels seperaterly for Boys and Girls from 1991 to 2010 in Vellore. Under Instructions from Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the facilities have been shifted to NATPU centre in Amirthi Itself.

Due to the geographical landscape of the Jawadhu hills, it is not possible for the forest village children of Jawadhu hills to attend our school as Day Scholars and so we are providing accommodation with food which is much necessary As per the Government norms We are not suppose to have Both the boys and Girls in the same campus and we are taking necessary steps to have seperate hostel buildings for boys and girls and a licence from the Government for the same is mandatory Our residential school is eligible to apply for the Recognition renewal as our School is Recognised by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
